Week 10 – Holiday Recap – Full (of Gratitude)

wordle-4

Thanksgiving has come and gone and all the usual suspects were in attendance.  There was ham, roast, a turkey named Goober, (family tradition), macaroni and cheese, candied sweet potatoes, potato salad, cranberry sauce, collard greens. They were followed by pound cake, German chocolate cake, 7-Up cake, caramel cake, banana pudding, cheesecake, sweet potato pie. There was beer, wine, soda and water. A lot of food for a lot of people.

While the food was awesome people were the main attraction. Family is always special to me.  Double meaning I know.  On Thanksgiving and every day I do my best to focus on the good in people and meet them where they are.

Random memories:

My Great Grandma hosting holiday dinner Thanksgiving & Christmas well into her 80’s With the help of my grandma and great-aunt.

The extended family auntie that always asked me when was I gonna find a good man. She wouldn’t stop until I told her the truth “I haven’t met her yet”.

My uncle Irvin opening all the pots on the stove to see what was cooking, sending my Great Grandma into a rage causing her to kick him out of the kitchen.

Cousin Karen & Uncle Bill ALWAYS getting into a political debate.

Experiencing Thanksgiving with my wife’s family for the first time and noticing how loud it was and how many more people there were.

Up all night cooking for everyone.  Happily putting the turkey on at 5 am knowing that we can get a couple of hours sleep

My father in law falling asleep in mid word, waking up and finishing his sentence.

My sister in law taking a whole pie and returning an empty pie tin.

Most recently seeing my daughter finally happy with the guy of her dreams.

After 32 Thanksgivings with my girl I hold each day special. I miss the noise of those that have moved away and those who have departed this earthly existence. I continue loving my family and being grateful for everyone of them.

To family members that may see this… If I forgot a name forgive me!

Whatever you celebrate, I am wishing you a blessed holiday season.

  3. It certainly is all the colourful people in our lives that bring a smile to our face. Your list reminded me to think of the many gatherings we enjoyed as a family at my grandma’s house. Heart warming post!
